Fr. David takes a moment to talk with us about Mary and how she accompanied Jesus throughout His life. Let's all follow her example by sticking with Jesus and each other no matter what!
Father David checks in with a reflection on the Raising of Lazarus in this Sunday's Gospel. Jesus consoles us. While we are still unable to gather together at Mass, you are all encouraged to use this time at home to give some time and space throughout the day to have a regular prayer life.
While we are unable to gather together for worship, we want to continue our Lenten Mission! We have put the verses of the "We Are There" Offertory song from Mass to music. We hope you can enjoy reflecting on each week's gospel. We will provide the music and new verses for the remaining weeks of Lent each week. This one is for last Sunday's gospel, the fourth Sunday of Lent!
The archbishop gives an update to the faithful from the archdiocese. He writes about the dispensation from the obligation to abstain from meet the next two Fridays, a day of fasting and abstinence coming on Wednesday, Mar. 25, and special prayer event with Pope Francis this Friday.
Fr. David reflects on the Gospel for Sunday, March 22. In the Gospel, the so-called blind man was the only one who could see the truth. He began to teach everyone about Jesus by testifying to his experience. Fr. David encourages you to read the Gospel slowly this afternoon and enter into each scene. Stop for a minute and notice all the details. Notice how Jesus walks with the blind man from blindness to discipleship. We are invited to that same journey.
Here we are in this unfamiliar and worrisome landscape. Yet, as with everything humans experience that involves, fear, separation or death, we know that Christ has been here before us. He is here with us even without the easily accessed oasis of His Sacramental presence. In these first days of no public celebration of the Eucharist, Fr. Tom wanted to share a few thoughts about this time.
We need to be praying for God’s merciful help in this challenge! Our priests will offer Mass daily in private for the intentions of the daily Masses, and the concerns of all parishioners. Please join in offering this prayer for Mary's intercession as your part.
Message from Archbishop Jackels, to the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, regarding the coronavirus. After consultation and considerable prayer, it has been decided – out of an abundance of caution and with devotion to the common good – to take steps aimed at slowing down the spread of the coronavirus, to flatten the curve, as they say, so as not to overburden the healthcare system.
Gov. Reynolds said Iowa has its 1st “community spread” case of Coronavirus. Churches and other organizations are to start limiting gatherings of more than 250 persons. Your pastors want you to know there is no obligation to attend Mass for vulnerable populations like elderly, those with underlying health issues, their care-givers or any who are uncomfortable attending.
