The Irish Catholic families in Little Dublin of Dubuque desired to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in their own humble neighborhood. Here the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary taught the knowledge and love of God since 1879. Archbishop Hennessy established this parish under the holy patronage of St. Columbkille on May 24, 1887.
As our parish grew, the present church was built in 1904 with St. Patrick and St. Brigid honored in beautiful stained glass. The painted designs are Celtic and the cornerstone was the gift of Bishop O’Donnell of Raphoe, Ireland, of the same lineage as St. Columbkille.
