The Readings
First Reading Acts of the Apostles 2:14a, 36-41
Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles and in a loud voice began to speak to the crowd: “All the people of Israel, then, are to know for sure that this Jesus, whom you crucified, is the one that God has made Lord and Messiah!”
When the people heard this, they were deeply troubled and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do, brothers?”
Peter said to them, “Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God’s gift, the Holy Spirit. For God’s promise was made to you and your children, and to all who are far away—all whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
Peter made his appeal to them and with many other words he urged them, saying, “Save yourselves from the punishment coming on this wicked people!” Many of them believed his message and were baptized, and about three thousand people were added to the group that day.
Responsorial Psalm

Second Reading 1 Peter 2:20b-25
Beloved: If you endure suffering even when you have done right, God will bless you for it. It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips.
When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge. Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed. You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.
Gospel John 10:1-10
Jesus said, “I am telling you the truth: the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who goes in through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him; the sheep hear his voice as he calls his own sheep by name, and he leads them out. When he has brought them out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. They will not follow someone else; instead, they will run away from such a person, because they do not know his voice.” Jesus told them this parable, but they did not understand what he meant.
So Jesus said again, “I am telling you the truth: I am the gate for the sheep. All others who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Those who come in by me will be saved; they will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.
With confidence in your words of everlasting life, we offer you our prayers and the prayers of the world.
For Pope Francis, bishops, priests, deacons and those who serve the church, May they hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, we pray to the Lord. Risen Lord, hear our prayer.
For the leaders of nations, May they lead those they are called to serve, through paths of righteousness and salvation, we pray to the Lord. Risen Lord, hear our prayer.
For those suffering from physical and emotional illness as well as those called to care for them, we pray to the Lord. Risen Lord, hear our prayer.
For those living in fear of the Coronavirus, that in our faith we learn patience and to have our trust in the Lord, we pray to the Lord. Risen Lord, hear our prayer.
For our parishes as we pray for each other during these difficult times, remembering our Good Shepherd leads us beside restful waters, we pray to the Lord. Risen Lord, hear our prayer.

Loving God, you have given us your Son the Good Shepherd to return us to you. May we be true witnesses to others of the love that we have been shown by Him. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
A Prayer for During the Pandemic
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We turn to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
