The Readings

First Reading Jeremiah 20:10-13

Jeremiah said: “I hear everybody whispering, ‘Terror is everywhere! So let’s report him to the authorities!’ Even my close friends wait for my downfall. ‘Perhaps he can be tricked,’ they say; ‘we can catch him and get revenge.’ But you, Lord, are on my side, strong and mighty, and those who persecute me will fail. They will be disgraced forever because they cannot succeed. Their disgrace will never be forgotten. But, Almighty Lord, you test people justly; you know what is in their hearts and minds. So let me see you take revenge on my enemies, for I have placed my cause in your hands. Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! He rescues the oppressed from the power of evil people.

Second Reading Romans 5:12-15

Brothers and sisters: Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned. There was sin in the world before the Law was given; but where there is no law, no account is kept of sins. But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, death ruled over all human beings, even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam did when he disobeyed God’s command. Adam was a figure of the one who was to come.

But the two are not the same, because God’s free gift is not like Adam’s sin. It is true that many people died because of the sin of that one man. But God’s grace is much greater, and so is his free gift to so many people through the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ.

Gospel Matthew 10:26-33

Jesus said to the Twelve: “Do not be afraid of people. Whatever is now covered up will be uncovered, and every secret will be made known. What I am telling you in the dark you must repeat in broad daylight, and what you have heard in private you must announce from the housetops. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather be afraid of God, who can destroy both body and soul in hell. For only a penny you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows! Those who declare publicly that they belong to me, I will do the same for them before my Father in heaven. But those who reject me publicly, I will reject before my Father in heaven.”

Prayers of the Faithful

• That all Church leaders challenge us to follow Jesus with unfailing fidelity and fearless passion during this time of the pandemic and unrest, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That world leaders value the lives of all who have been entrusted to them, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That our students making their 1^st Eucharist over the next week know the love and support we have for them as they continue their faith journeys and are able join us at the table of the Lord, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That all health care workers, first responders and those attempting to reopen businesses during this pandemic be kept safe, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That all fathers and those who have been father figures in our lives are blessed with joy and happiness as we celebrate father’s day, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That the fear we experience in our lives and in our nation may be cast out by our joyful trust in the promise of God’s never-ending love inspiring us to bring an end to the sin of racism, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
• That Don Ruden; John A. Baumgartner; Bob Zahren; Patrick Anglin; Bill Amling; Don Huseman; Paul Meyers; John Welsh; Roger Bahl; Gerald, Susan & Kathy Wild; Andy & Betty Hemmer; William Kinsella; Don Oliver Sr.; Edward Ulve; and all who have died experience the fullness of God’s love and care for them in the heavenly kingdom, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Spiritual Communion Prayer

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

A Prayer for During the Pandemic

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,
Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.
We turn to you today as your beloved children.
We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our nation and world,
and for all our families and loved ones,
the protection of your holy angels,
that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted,
we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.
Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms,
help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
