Reflection & Prayer for Discernment
‘Prayer itself, born in Catholic families, nurtured by programs of Christian formation, strengthened by the grace of the sacraments, is the first means by which we come to know the Lord’s will for our lives. To the extent that we teach young people to pray, and to pray well, we will be cooperating with God’s call. Programs, plans and projects have their place; but the discernment of a vocation is above all the fruit of an intimate dialogue between the Lord and his disciples. Young people, if they know how to pray, can be trusted to know what to do with God’s call.” Pope Benedict XVI

Good and gracious God,
all that we have comes from Your hands
and we give You praise!
We have entered into a new time in our Diocese
and we seek Your guidance and wisdom
as we discern the future.
In Your love send forth Your Holy Spirit
To Your people and Your ministers.
Open our hearts to hear Your words.
Transform our minds to see possibilities,
to be visionaries and prophets.
Lead us to a vision that will strengthen our Church.
May we always be a sign of faith, hope and charity,
a refuge where all are welcomed in Jesus’ name.
Lord Jesus, calm our fears, dispel all bitterness and anxiety.
Bring us together as a Church,
so we may be of one mind and one spirit,
working for the growth of Your Kingdom.
O Triune God, we place ourselves in your hands.
May all our decisions be for Your glory!
Amen.
