Pilgrimage Date: March 12-24, 2012
Archdiocese of Dubuque, 1837-2012
JESUS ALIVE Through 175 Years
Dear Friends in Christ,
I invite you to join me on a pilgrimage to Rome and the Holy Land during the month of March 2012. This pilgrimage is a part of the 175th Anniversary celebration of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
THe pilgrimage will be an opportunity for prayer and spiritual renewal. We hope to identify with Christians of the past as we visit the churches and other sites in Rome, the center of Roman Catholocism. In the Holy Land, we will experience a greater closeness with Jesus as we pray in the places made sacred by His presence.
Time is of the essence in accepting this invitation, as March 2012 is fast approaching. I assure you that this faith-filled pilgrimage of five days in Rome and six days in the Holy Land will be a journey of a lifetime.
Sincerely in Christ,
+ Jerome Hanus, OSB
Archbishop of Dubuque

What is a Pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a journey undertaken with religious motives to a sacred site. The sacred site could be a shrine in your region or be well known nationally or internationally.
Pilgrimages are undertaken for numerous reasons. Some people make pilgrimages to renew their relationship with God, others to praise and thank him for graces received.
A properly prepared and organized spiritual journey offers many personal opportunities that may change one’s outlook on life. I can also help one discover the supernatural power of God, enrich one’s life of faith, and strengthen the bonds of love and friendship with family and community. It can also be an occason to experience the healing power of Jesus Christ.
Why Consider A Pilgrimage?
For some people, a pilgrimage is a wonderful way to follow in the footsteps of Mary. She carried the Son of God on her pilgrimage to the house of Elizabeth. On that journey, she came to believe that nothing is impossible with God and proclaimed this message to Elizabeth. As the mother of Jesus Christ, Mary was the first to experience the amazing mystery of God becoming flesh for our salvation.
