OPEN YOUR HEART

How did Jesus endure the terror of the crucifixion? He went first to the Father with His fears. He modeled the words of Psalm 56:3: “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” Do the same with yours! Don’t avoid life’s Gardens of Gethsemane. Enter them. Just don’t enter them alone! And while there, be honest. Pounding on the ground is permitted. Tears are allowed. And if you sweat blood, you won’t be the first. Do what Jesus did; open your heart. And be specific. Jesus was. “Take this cup,” he prayed. Give God the number of the flight. Tell him the length of the speech. Share the details of the job transfer. Tell him how much money you need to pay your bills. Share with him the details of your failings, your hurts, your shames. Tell him your fears for your children. Share all the details. He has time! He also has plenty of compassion! He doesn’t consider your fears foolish or silly. He won’t tell you to “buck up” or “get tough.” He’s been where you are. He knows how you feel. AND He knows what you need. THIS LENT, share YOUR details with God!

Welcome JESUS into Your Heart

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER GABRIEL

In many of the passages of Scripture, Jesus passed by and those who became aware of His presence were attracted to Him. In our case, you are passing by in cyberspace! We appreciate that you want to know more about Jesus. We want to open the door and invite you to spend some time discovering the Kingdom of God!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR PARISH

The Irish Catholic families in Little Dublin of Dubuque, desired to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in their own humble neighborhood. Here the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary taught the knowledge and love of God since 1879. Archbishop Hennessy established this parish under the holy patronage of St. Columbkille on May 24, 1887. As our parish grew, the present church was built in 1904 with St. Patrick and St. Brigid honored in beautiful stained glass. The painted designs are Celtic and the cornerstone was the gift of Bishop O’Donnell of Raphoe, Ireland, of the same lineage as St. Columbkille.

Please spend some time viewing our Web Site to learn more about what our Parish has to offer.
